Agency Details:
Wisconsin Board On Aging And Long Term Care-Volunteer Ombudsman Program
The mission of the Board on Aging and Long-Term Care is to advocate for the interests of the state’s citizens in need of long-term care.
Description:
The Volunteer Ombudsman Program is a service that was developed to assist residents of nursing homes. Established in 1994 by the Board on Aging and Long Term Care, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program increases the supplemental services provided to nursing home residents by the Ombudsman Program. Volunteer Ombudsmen empower residents and monitor conditions of nursing homes. Volunteer Ombudsmen in this program will make unannounced visits to designated nursing homes on a weekly basis. During their weekly visits volunteers observe, listen to and interact with the residents. They observe general conditions of the facility, and keep a log of this data. They talk with the residents and families, guiding them in the right direction to solve issues. Volunteers will assist the resident in solving issues that may include, but are not limited to personal hygiene, daily cares, diet/meal issues, comfort, activities, staff relationships, personal empowerment, and facility conditions.
History:
The Volunteer Ombudsman program has existed in Central Wisconsin since August of 2004.
