Special Olympics offers year-round Olympic type sports training for athletes with cognitive disabilities, ages 8yrs old and up. Our goal is to provide not only an environment for athletic competition, but also a place to foster self-esteem, self-confidence, access to health and nutrition information ,as well as a social opportunity for athletes with disabilities, families, and volunteers with or without disabilities to work together.

Description:
Adams-Friendship Special Olympics covers all of Adams County and some of the surrounding areas. Special Olympics is open to any person with a cognitive disability, over the age of 8, who is interested in participating in Olympic type sports.

Our agency currently offers basketball, bowling, and track & field. Our athletes currently range in age from 10yrs old to over 50. We work with athletes of every shape, size, and ability level, as well as their families, to provide a fun and social, yet competitive athletic experience.

History:
Our agency has a wonderful athletic history. We are proud to have athletes both in bowling and in track & field advance to the state tournament almost every year! We are also proud of the fact that our basketball team has advanced to the state tournament every year for the last 4 years, and has brought home a 1st or 2nd place every year for the past 3 years.

We have many athletes that have participated in our program since they were in middle school or high school, and are still with us as adults, many of which are now serving as athlete coaches as well.
