Our mission is to provide decent, safe, sanitary housing to low-income families, the elderly and disabled.
Description:
The Stevens Point Housing Authority is working to better lives in our community by providing decent, safe, sanitary housing to low-income families, the elderly and disabled. The Housing Authority partners with the Boys &Girls Club and also runs additional programs such as The Homework Center™. The Homework Center™ provides tutoring to low-income students living in public housing.
The Homework Center™ opened in September of 1992 to serve students living in public housing managed by the Stevens Point Housing Authority. The Center is located in the Madison View Apartment complex off of North Second St. behind the Senior High School.
If you enjoy working with youth and are looking for a unique tutoring opportunity The Homework Center™ is for you! An on-site library, educational materials, worksheets, games make it easy to work with the students once their homework is complete.
You will enjoy the personal interaction and independence offered through this experience.
The Homework Center™ is staffed completely by volunteers under the direct supervision of the Housing Authority's Resident Services Coordinator. All tutors and coordinator donate their time to make this project possible.
