Historic Point Basse
| Last updated on May 2, 2011 |
Historic Point Basse continues to bring the 1850 life-style to life. Our Point Basse Pioneer Festival is held every second weekend in June and features many demonstrators and craftsmen from that era. We also have period style food. Other events are the Harvest Fair, a Spirit Walk, and Heritage HollyDays. Costumed characters are hosts and explain the buildings, site and events. School groups come to the site to learn about Wisconsin history.
Description:
Historic Point Basse provides a historical interpretation of the Wakely homestead from the 1850's. We work to preserve original architecture and landmarks of the site. Conservation of the site is another important role of our group. We offer seasonal events open to the public and student group programs by appointment.
History:
The organization was established approximately 25 years ago. The goals at the time were to save the only original structure left on the property; the home of Robert and Mary Wakely. Archaeological surveys were conducted to establish a more complete history of the property. We have restored the home and moved in or built several buildings to recreate original buildings lost over the last century and a half.
