The Family Center, Inc. works through education and community involvement to eliminate violence and provide safety for all people victimized by abuse.

Description:
A safe place is the most immediate need of a woman in crisis...especially an abused woman. She is better able to make decisions about her future when she knows she is secure.
The Family Center is a secured building offering safe shelter in a home-like environment to victims of domestic abuse and their children. Each family has one bedroom and bathroom and shares the rest of the shelter space with other families. Food and supplies are provided.
Residents are responsible for the care of their family and the upkeep of the shelter area that they use. The shelter stay is up to thirty days and can be extended if there are extenuating circumstances.
By provinging shelter, the Family Center offers a safe "time-out" for all family members and gives them an opportunity to regain a sense of strength and control in their lives.
Counseling and self help groups are provided on an individual basis to residents and walk-ins by appointment.
Legal advocacy, children programs and transitional living services are available for our clients.
Supervised visitation and exchange services are also provide from the Family Center.

History:
The Family Center started in 1984 and the doors opened in July at 510 10th Avenue South before we moved to our new location at 500 25th street North. We exist because of the generosity of the community and our neighbors. Your support will ensure that help will be there when it is needed.
