Big Brothers Big Sisters
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth, primarily through a professtionally-supported One-To-One relationship with a caring adult, and to assist them in achieving their highest potential as they grow to become confident, competent, and caring individuals.
Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters brings youth ages 6-18 years of age together with a Volunteer that is caring and committed to enriching a child's life. Volunteers are matched after completing a screening process and then matched based on a variety of components (for example: personality, likes, experience, etc.). Our work is as elementary as putting a friend in a child's life, and as essential as putting hope into a child's future.
History:
Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. In 2004, the organization served more than 225,000 youth ages five through 18, in 5,000 communities across the country, through a network of 470 agencies. In 2003, Big Brothers Big Sisters was selected by Forbes Magazine as one of its top ten charities, making the publication's "gold star" list of charities which it believes are worthy of donor consideration.
