Description:
The United Way works to mobilize south Wood & Adams Counties to create sustained changes in community conditions by creating impact. We assess needs, allocate funds, raise funds, and measure results. Our impact areas are
- Supporting our vulnerable and aging populations
- Fulfilling basic needs
- Helping our Children and Youth Succeed
History:
United Way was first incorporated in South Wood County 1942. In 1975, there was a major reorganization, employing the first Executive Director. A Planned Giving and Endowment Program was established in 1984. An AFL-CIO Community Services Liaison/Information & Referral Specialist was employed in 2001. In 2002 the allocation process was changed to Community Impact and Vision Councils, including outcome based funding. Leadership Giving was begun the same year. We currently have established a Legacy Society; its mission is to attain sufficient principal so that all of United Way's operational expenses can be paid from the earnings on that principal. In 2006, United Way expanded to include services to Adams County and in 2007, changed officially changed its name to United Way of Inner Wisconsin serving as both counties.
