Teaching children that learning can be fun and helping them feel good about themselves are key ingredients of the Head Start program. Children are given opportunities to learn and grow at their own pace. We provide an environment where children
Learn by doing
Learn by making choices
Learn to get along with others
Our educational program emphasizes preparing children to be successful in their school careers as well as successful in life. We are a family-centered program which follows the principle that children develop in the context of their family. Therefore, we make every effort to support families and encourage parents to be involved in their children's education.

Description:
Head Start is a comprehensive child development program that serves low-income, preschool children and their families.

Head Start provides families with educational services for their children and also addresses important issues such as nutrition, medical & dental services, mental health, social and emotional development and promotes parent involvement.

Each classroom of 17 children has a Teacher, a Teaching Assistant and a Classroom Aide. There is also a Family Service Worker at each center. All of them are experienced in providing services to children having cultural diversities, special needs and disabilities.

We provide transportation, a nutritious meal and snack, and a curriculum designed to help the children learn at their own individual pace.

History:
Beginning with a task force recommendation in 1964 for the development of a federally sponsored preschool program to meet the needs of disadvantaged children, Head Start has grown to serve children from birth to age 5 and their families.

We now have 4 locations across Wood County our centers are in Marshfield, Vesper, And 2 centers in Wisconsin Rapids.
