We provide a free meal to anyone who is either economically disadvantaged or needs a safe and friendly place to meet others in our community. We do not charge for the meal, but we do accept donations.

Description:
The Neighborhood Table is an independent community based organization that serves meals each Thursday of the month and the last Tuesday of the month from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at the community center at St. John's Episcopal Church, located across from the Post Office in Wisconsin Rapids. We provide meals by recruiting church groups, service organizations, schools or businesses to sponsor and volunteer at each meal. We provide help with the meal planning, training of volunteers and providing beverages and disposable items used at the meals. We have served over 120,000 meals since our first meal on December 31, 2003 through September 30,2010.

History:
Ginny Steen, our founder, began organizing an effort to provide a community meal/soup kitchen program in September of 2003. Our organization is patterned after The Bread Basket a similar program in Waupaca. The Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County provided a start-up grant to get the ball rolling. That's all it took! At our first meal we served 55 persons. We started out by serving on the last Thursday of each month. We are currently serving about 400 people at each of our meals which are held on every Thursday of the month. We have been fortunate to have over 80 different community groups sponsor one of our meals.
