The goal of the School Buddy Program is to create solid relationships between volunteers from our community and children from area schools by having our School Buddies meet once a week for a hour with a student. What children become involved in the School Buddy Program?: Children are between Kindergarten and 6th grade. We currently serve children attending the Wisconsin Rapids Elementary Schools and at the Baker Street Boys and Girls Club. A student is referred to the program because of difficulties with scholastic and/or social skills. Our program goal is to help any child in need of an additional friend or role model. When do School Buddies meet?: School Buddies meet with a child on school grounds during designated school hours. School Buddies are asked to commit themselves to the program for at least one hour per week for the school year.
We are looking for caring, consistent volunteers that are willing to spend time with a child. We encourage applications from high school age and up. Requirements: Commitment: Commit to the program for one full school year, and be able to meet once a week. Transportation: Must be able to provide own transportation to and from the school site. Application: An application will need to be completed Background check: A background check will be done on all applicants to ensure the safety of the children in the program (i.e.: police check and sex offender registry) Reference Check: We check 2 references (provided by applicant)
